VENUE

[Tourist Information] Marstrand is a small island on the beautiful west coast of Sweden, 40 km from Göteborg. The charming old houses, the fortress, the walking paths, and the absence of cars make this island a very pleasant resort. There are direct flights to Göteborg Landvetter from most European main cities, and buses from Göteborg to Marstrand.

Hotels

The conference and the workshops are held at Villa Maritime (VM) where some of the participants stay, and the rest of the participants stay at Hotell Alphyddan (HA). Both hotels and the ferry landing are within 5 minutes walking distance from one another. [That is basically true of the all parts of the Marstrand island village ;-]

On this map (208 Kb) Villa Maritime is circle number 20 (just south of the ferry landing) and Hotell Alphyddan is number 7 (in the upper left corner - some 400 meters from the ferry landing). Local transportation

There are buses from the airport (Landvetter) to the central train station and from there to Marstrand. The last two hundred meters over to the Marstrand island is by boat. The whole trip takes roughly two hours including waiting for connections. (Price appr. 85 SEK one-way.)

The one way taxi fare for 1 - 4 people is roughly 650 SEK. This takes you to (but not onto) the ferry. (The trip takes about one hour.)

There is an online information system (in Swedish!) that knows the times for all these connections but currently [980606] it seems that their database server is a little unreliable. To get an idea of the probable schedule you could still use it.
